is a brand which began at the 34 boulevard Saint-Germain, Paris, in 1961 when
three friends, Desmond Knox-Leet, painter, Christiane Gautrot, interior
decorator, and Yves Coueslant, theatre and set designer, came together with the
same frame of mind. For the first couple of years the trio created fabric and
wallpaper designs, but in 1963 Diptyque began exploring its love for fragrance
and the scented candles were born.
